Kynžvart Spa

Far from the hustle and bustle

The Kynžvart Spa is located in the central part of the marginal slope of the Slavkovský Forest on the Mariánské Lázev deep fault, at an altitude of around 700 meters. The bedrock here is granite, which intruded into the mantle crystalline structure represented mainly by phyllites and schists, and in places amphibolites. The occurrence of mineral waters has been reported in the area since the 15th century. The spa was founded by Chancellor Klemens Václav Metternich in 1822 on the recommendation of Jakob Berzelius, who analyzed the springs and recommended artificial collection.

The Kynžvart mineral waters were officially recognized as medicinal in 1862. In addition to the aerated mineral water and peloids, the Kynžvart Spa also uses favorable climatic conditions for treatment.Four mineral water sources from the narrowest seepage zone of the Kynžvart spring structure are used in the treatment process. The procedures include both internal balneotherapy, especially in the form of drinking cures, gargling and rinsing, and external balneotherapy in the form of carbonic baths. Many other mineral springs spring in the vicinity of the spa, thus complementing its natural background - the spa therapeutic landscape.
