The village of Prameny (Sangerberg) was founded in the 14th century on deposits of silver and especially tin. The area was part of an important mining district that also included Čistá, Krásno and Horní Slavkov.
Since the mid-19th century, spas have been developing in Western Bohemia. It was no different in Prameny, where the Elizabethan Spa was opened in 1872, using rich mineral water springs. The construction of the spa was made possible by high revenues from trading in Žatec hops, which was a business that several local families were involved in.
Prameny
With the end of World War II, the golden age of the Sangerberg Spa came to an end. Only recently has this oasis of peace in the heart of the Slavkov Forest gradually developed. In the vicinity of Prameny there are some of the most valuable wetland sites in the entire Czech Republic, which, together with peat bogs, are a very important element contributing to maintaining a long-term stable water regime in the central parts of the Slavkovský Forest. Most of them are covered with bog vegetation and spruce forests, the rest are natural forestless areas with communities of open uplands and transitional peat bogs. The entire area is famous for its gassed mineral waters and gaseous carbon dioxide. Peaty, fen and waterlogged meadows are home to rare and specially protected species of plants and animals.
