The Helena and Viktor Springs

The first written mention of the mineral springs in the vicinity of Lázně Kynžvart dates back to the 1454. The healing waters rich with carbon dioxide began to be used in the 19th century. In 1822, on the request of Prince Metternich the springs were analyzed by Swedish chemist Jakob Berzelius, who recommended six of them to capture. In 1856, the springs started to be used in hydrotherapy, and in 1862 were declared to natural healing sources. In 1864 was opened the first spa house “Metternich” (today “Orlík”), gradually followed by others. Glory of Spa peaked in the mid-20th century. Today, here in the quiet and intimate treat paediatric patients with indications of respiratory diseases, skin diseases and newly obesity and kidney disease and urinary tract.

Acidulous water arises in the environment of crystalline units of Slavkovský les Mts., which is built by amphibolites, paragneisses and granite. In Lázně Kynžvart are currently recorded four springs, three of which are publicly accessible.

The springs Helena and Victor are captured by deep wells and led to the drinking pavilion in the park in front of the Balneotherapy Building. They are cold ferruginous acidulous water of hydrogen carbonate-calcium-magnesium type with high content of silica acid.
