The Přebuz Mining Colony

The mining colony of Přebuz (Frühbuß) was founded near tin ore fields. Since the 14th century, German ancestors had seasonally panned for cassiterite from weathered rock and stream deposits. In 1543,  a mining settlement was established near underground shafts and adits and became a town in 1553-1613. In 1900, Přebuz had 1 478 inhabitants living in 208 houses. Today, the recreation resort retains only a twentieth of its original population.
