Old roads in Carlsbad Vary spa forests

Original Prague road

The original Prague road led from the spa centre over a stone bridge over the Teplá River at the today Main Post Office to Panorama (today's the street Na Vyhlídce), then passing the slopes of mountains Eternal Life (Ewiges Leben) to Hůrky, where was a coaching inn. The inhabitants of this village found in the operation of vehicles traveling from Prague to the spa and back their livelihood. In the spa forests above the current Prague road, there are still evident remains of old road pavement as well as places where the road forked to the wagons at the meeting could safely pass. At that time the road led through the fields (today there are forests), around the homestead called Echo, whose position on the morphologically distinctive spur above the road bend is still impressive. At the beginning of the 19th century, stopped this old road for an ever increasing number of carriages and wagons suit and was replaced by a new road, built on the slope below, and still utilized.

Along the old road are still visible traces of artificial landscaping. You can also find here small stone quarries, today overgrown with vegetation of all kinds. In quarries and the lopping off road, occur the rocks typical of the southern environs of Karlovy Vary - coarse- and fine-grained biotite granites belonging to the Karlovy Vary pluton of the age of 270-300 million years (Carboniferous to Permian). In many places on the old road, despite the tall forest, breathtaking view of the southern part of the spa town, situated in a narrow Teplá valley following fault lines in granite.
