Lázně Kynžvart

Giant granite boulders

In the meadows and forests south of Kynžvart, we will be surprised by huge granite boulders in several places. The largest of them is protected as a natural monument, the Kynžvart Stone. It is about six meters high, with perfectly developed grooved pseudo-cracks up to 60 cm deep on the top, edges and side walls. A few dozen meters further on is an interesting group of granite boulders – the Bear Stones. On the top of one of them there is a smaller rock bowl.

Another large boulder is near the Forest Chapel on Májový vrch, near Kynžvart Castle. There is a small viewpoint with a gazebo from 1833 on it.The large granite blocks were not transported to their current location from anywhere. In most cases, they stand where they were created by weathering and the removal of the surrounding disintegrated parts of the granite rock.
