Scientists drilled in Windischeschenbach 9101 m deep in the Earth's crust – one of deepest holes in the world in hard crystalline bedrock. On this world-famous site, 1998 the GEO Centre at KTB originated as an information and meeting place for science, schools and the public. The GEO Centre at KTB is now a modern environmental education centre dedicated to the Earth as the central theme. Let's take from the research findings of geoscientists to amaze and inspire them to reflect on our Planet. We want to show you how exciting and important to our daily lives is the Earth’s system
In the GEO Centre at KTB you will find many brochures to destinations in the Czech-Bavarian Geopark and also a terminal with access to our website. In the GEO Centre shop you get maps and books. Access to the information centre and shop is free.
The GEO Center at KTB informs you in a modern exhibition on the Earth’s system as well as some aspects of the geology of the Czech-Bavarian Geopark. Next you will find a mineral exhibition on the first floor of the annex building with finds mainly from the northern Upper Palatinate (Karl Bauer collection).
Guided tours and the well site inform on goals, implementation, and results of the Continental Deep Drilling of the Federal Republic of Germany (KTB), which was realized 1989-1994 to the depth of 9,101 m.
On request, specialist guided visits are possible.
