Varhany (“Organ“) forms the eastern part of a twin volcanic hump. The basalt columns radiate from the centre of the hill like fingers in all directions and form a perfect charcoal heap. The wall of Varhany was exposed in the 18th century by a quarry, which produced crushed basalt as an additive in charge material used for iron ore smelting. Under the rule of the Nostitz family, the locality was perfectly restored and a part of it has been a reserve since 1953.
