Peat Bog

Peat was mined for heating purposes in several areas in the environs of Pernink. The largest peat bog with an area of nearly 40 hectares lies between Pernink and Abertamy. It is up to three metres thick and, despite the fact that it was almost completely destroyed by high-capacity mining after World War II. Its profile may be clearly observed in its preserved part.
