The Tuhnice Path

The Tränktrog Spring - Cottage “Na Skalce” – Doubí Cottage - St. Linhart

The path begins in the junction at the water reservoir called “Tränktrog”. Water comes here from a tank system at the foot of the northern slopes of the Slavkovský les Mts., where the crystalline units are tectonically divided from the Tertiary Ohře/Eger Graben. This so-called Southern Boundary Fault plays an important role in shaping the landscape. In the upper parts is filled with kaolin of weathered granites and represents a significant barrier to groundwater. The water was and partly still is collected by system of reservoirs and water mains. Above the slope we find a number of other cold springs, which until the 1920ies supplied the town with drinking water. North of here, the tectonically affected bedrock built by porphyric medium-grained biotite granite, is covered by Neogene volcanogenic sediments as well as Quaternary stony loams and relics of and river terraces.

The path continues slightly upward, passes the cottage “Na Skalce” (“On the Rock”, magnificent view of Dvory and to the basin) and continues until the site called Saint Linhart with former famous restaurants and a new rope centre. We are on the northern slopes of the Slavkovský les Mts., an important infiltration area of groundwater. From here, the water here flows to the local erosive base, represented here by the Eger stream at an altitude of 369 m ASL.
